General Questions
What do I need to bring with me to class?
Class materials will be provided in class. You are encouraged to bring a notebook and paper, however, it is not required. Your instructor may have other recommendations on the first day of class.
I don’t have a computer. Can you help me get one?
Emily Griffith does not provide students with a computer or laptop. There is a computer lab available for student use on the 6th floor in room 662. If you are taking online classes it is expected that you have a computer or phone and access to reliable internet access so you can join your online class.
What are online classes like?
All of our online classes are live classes with a group and an instructor. You will receive a Google Meet link after registration and will use the same link for the full duration of the class. Students are expected to login on time and be active in the class. Students are expected to attend class from a quiet space without interruptions.
Can I take more than one class?
Yes! You can take multiple classes during the same term. However, if you have a busy work schedule or family commitments that require a lot of time and attention, we recommend starting with one class.
Do I have to attend every class?
The more classes you are able to attend, the more you will learn!
We encourage you to attend every class. However, we understand that sometimes you may need to miss a class. If you need to be absent, please email your teacher.
Are there tutors?
Drop-in tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:00 pm in rooms 506 and 653. Email academic.empowerment@emilygriffith.edu if you cannot attend these sessions.
I have a documented disability. How do I request accommodations?

Do you have free parking?
Emily Griffith’s Main Campus does not offer free parking. Paid parking options are available in metered spots on the street and in area parking lots. Nearby lots have rates ranging from $5-$16 MAX. You can use BestParking to find a spot. Because of the limited availability of parking, we recommend using public transit if possible.
Free parking is available if you are taking CRESL classes at our Aspen Hall location at 7039 East 18th Ave, Denver, CO 80220.
What else can I do at Emily Griffith?

Can you help me apply for a student visa?
Emily Griffith welcomes all students, however, we do not participate in the student visa program and cannot provide the I-20 form.
PACE Questions

What if I need help paying for my classes?
Emily Griffith Technical College offers scholarships that cover 20 - 30% of the cost of your classes. Scholarships are awarded on a first come first serve basis, so register for classes early!
You can also set up a payment plan with the Treasury Office. A payment plan will split the cost of your courses into two equal payments. The first payment must be made before your first day of class, and the second payment will be due the following month. You can request a payment plan online or contact the Treasury Office to set up a payment plan. View payment information.

Someone else is paying for my program. What do I do?
We accept third-party funding from employers, agencies, or other individuals who have agreed to pay for your classes. Please contact our Treasury Office if you are expecting third-party funding.
Can I change my class schedule?
You can change your class schedule up until the census date, which is usually within the first week of class. However, we recommend you let us know before classes start.
Can Au Pairs take English Classes to earn the required education hours?
We welcome Au Pairs! Our Navigator can help you select classes based on your learning needs and desired number of credits. After each 8-week term, you may request a certificate including the hours and credit for your classes.
Can I get a certificate?
Yes, you may request a certificate by completing this online Certificate Request form. Our team will review and process your request. Please allow up to 5 business days.
Can I register a family member or friend?
PACE/GED - You can help your family member or friend complete the online application. However, they will also need to take a placement test and select classes. You should not help with the placement test. If your friend or family member comes to our office on the 6th floor at 1860 Lincoln St., we can also help with all steps in the registration process. We use an interpretation phone service so that we can communicate with your friend or family member in their language.
CRESL Questions
Do I have to come in for registration?
You must come into one of our offices to register for classes.
Can I register a family member or friend?
You cannot register a friend or family member. All students must come in-person to take a placement test and choose classes. We use an interpretation phone service so that we can communicate with your friend or family member in their language.
Can I change my class schedule?
Yes. Please talk to one of the CRESL Navigators to change your schedule.
Can I take a PACE class if I am a CRESL student?
Our PACE classes are open to all students, however, they are tuition-based meaning you will be required to pay for PACE classes. We encourage you to talk to a Navigator about your options in both the CRESL and PACE programs based on your learning needs.
GED Questions

Which class should I take?
If you can only take one class and you have not taken any GED subject area tests, we recommend starting with the Reading class. Strong reading comprehension is required for all the subject area tests, and our reading content prepares students for the language arts, social sciences, and science tests.
What is Aztec?
Aztec is the online learning program we use for our high school equivalency classes. You will complete lessons and assessments in your Aztec account.
Why do I have to take a locator?
The locator tells us what you need to study first. In addition to determining whether you need Level 1 or Level 2, you will receive access to the curriculum you need based on your locator results.
I am having trouble logging into my Aztec account. What should I do?
Double-check your username and password in the email you received. They are case-sensitive. If you are sure you entered your credentials correctly and still can’t get into the system, contact gedprep@emilygriffith.edu or call 720-423-4700.
I took the locator. Now what do I do?
Look for an email from gedprep@emilygriffith.edu confirming your registration and providing payment information. Payment is due by your first class.

What technology do I need to use for my class?
Almost all of the classwork for the GED classes are online. You will continue to use Aztec for your lessons and tests throughout the class. It is important that you have a working computer and reliable internet access.
Do I need to buy a textbook?
There are no textbooks required for the GED classes. In online classes, 100% of the materials are online. In our in-person classes, you may be given worksheets and readings from the instructor, but the majority of the coursework will still be online.
Can I change my class schedule?

What level of English should I have to take GED classes?
We recommend that students be in level 4 (advanced) English classes at Emily Griffith Technical College or higher to enroll in GED classes. If you are unsure of your English level, please email ged.prep@emilygriffith.edu to request an English assessment. You can also come to our office on the 6th floor at 1860 Lincoln St. to take the English assessment.
How long will it take to get my GED?
Everyone’s timeline is different. Each GED class term is 8 weeks long, and we offer 2 levels of both Math & Reading classes. For some students, taking each level once is enough to get them the scores they need on their practice exams. For others, repeating a class is helpful and gives them more time to work on specific topics or skills.
How will I know I’m ready for the GED Exam?
Your GED Instructor will use Aztec diagnostic tests and GED Ready practice exams to evaluate your readiness for the official GED Exam. If your teacher agrees that you are ready, EGTC will give you a voucher code that you will use to register for the exam for free.
How do I sign up for the GED?
Work with your instructor to determine when you’re ready to take your GED subject area tests. All information about the test, testing centers, and practice tests is available at ged.com.
When you are ready to take the GED exam, choose if you want to take the exam online or in person at an official testing center. Your instructor will help you register and schedule your exam at https://ged.com/about_test/scheduling/
