Patient Care Technician : Emily Griffith Technical College

Patient Care Technician

Interested in a career in health care? Becoming a Patient Care Technician is a great way to start!

What’s a Patient Care Technician? A Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in patient care. As a PCT, you’ll be working directly with patients to help address their needs. PCTs are similar to CNAs, however, Patient Care Technicians can also provide additional care that CNAs are not certified to give, including drawing blood and handling EKG readings.

It’s also a great pathway toward becoming a nurse! Our PCT program provides you with all the prerequisites necessary to apply to our Licensed Practical Nursing program.

In-demand career: Patient Care Technicians are increasingly in demand at hospitals throughout the Denver metro area.

Get certified: With the Emily Griffith Patient Care Technician program you’ll earn four health care certifications in just one academic year. You’ll be able to receive a nurse assisting certification, a phlebotomy certification, basic life support, and patient care technician certificates by the end of the program.

Clinical placement: Complete a clinical internship in a real-world health care setting and gain vital experience.

Facilities: Practice your skills in our health care lab that looks and feels like a real health care facility!

EMILY’S STORIES

"If you want to do it, go back and do it!"

Nia initially came to Emily Griffith to get her GED after she discovered she was pregnant. She left off for a while but decided to return last spring. A big motivation for returning was to show her kids that it is never too late to come back to school.

She had a lot of anxiety around the new test and was initially discouraged after she stared class. But her teacher was so supportive, she knew she could do it this time. And she did! She finished and passed all of her tests this June!

Now she’s planning on getting her certificate in Phlebotomy at Emily Griffith starting in January. She is in recovery and is interested in working in a rehab facility in order to help others going through the recovery process.

She says it’s never too late to finish your education, “If you want to do it, go back and do it!”
