about the program
Automotive Service will give you hands-on experience working on real cars with the latest engine analyzers, handheld scanners and other computerized diagnostic equipment. Choose between our full-time program, the part-time afternoon or evening program. You will learn about all aspects of car repair including:
- Electrical/Electronics
- Brakes
- Steering and Suspension
- Engine Repair
- Automatic Transmissions
- Manual Transmissions and Axles
- Heating and Air Conditioning
- Engine Performance
We offer trainings with Ford, Subaru, and Toyota manufacturers.

Academic Preparedness:
- English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
- Understanding of basic algebra.
- Use hands and fingers to assemble very small objects, manipulate objects, tools, and controls.Â
- Make repetitive motions that include, but are not limited to bending, stretching, standing, crouching, crawling, and walking.
- Occasionally climb, or balance.Â
- React quickly with physical movements.
- Follow safety procedures and wear required safety equipment, when necessary.
- Tolerate many odors.Â
- See differences between colors, shades, brightness, and distances.Â
- Differentiate, determine, and focus on a single source of sound while ignoring others.
- Lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
- Remain physically active for extended periods of time without getting tired, or out of breath.Â
- Communicate effectively with instructor(s), classmates, and clients.Â
- Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with changes in speed of moving objects.
- Capable of lifting 30 pounds.
- Capable of sustained activity for 5 hours at a time.

- The program is delivered at a quick pace, without breaks between classes. The program is technically intense at times. A firm grasp of computer knowledge is required.
- Technical tours and technician ride-along experiences are part of the program. Please discuss accessibility needs with your Navigator before class.
- Due to the delivery, this program will require computer use and internet access. If you need assistance obtaining technology, please contact student.success@emilygriffith.edu.Â
- Your instructor will send out a welcome email with the class details.
NOTE: Students must reply to the instructor’s welcome email confirming email was received, and read and that any attestation, or paperwork required before starting class has been completed.

- Assignments completed virtually will be done using our learning system, Moodle. You will not be able to access Moodle until you have paid for your classes.

- Safety glasses
- Jeans or canvas long pants
- T-shirt or work shirt

You must follow all school policies for in-person and virtual learning at all times.
The Code of Conduct and other program policies will be reviewed in class.
The Student Success Center provides you access to services such as tutoring, disability support services, health and wellness resources, and classroom support.
- You are not allowed to miss more than 30% of the course hours; if you miss more than 10% of the course hours a referral will be made to your Student Success Coordinator.
- This resets at each course throughout the program and this includes arriving late and leaving early
- Tradiness for over 30 minutes without notification may result in being sent home
- Multiple absences or tardies will result in a failing grade and removal from the program
- Missed hours cannot be made-up. You will need to re-enroll in a future cohort.
- Enrollment in future cohorts is dependent on pending space and availability.
- Student IDs must be worn at all times while on school property and during any off-campus school activities.
- Pants must be worn at the waist (no sagging pants).
- Sunglasses are not to be worn during school hours, unless outside.
- Odors from smoke, excessive perspiration, perfume, or other sources are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Odors can be disruptive and even cause physical symptoms to clients and other students.
- Students not following the dress code will be asked to change or leave. Being asked to leave will count as missed time.

Program Structure and Delivery:

- There is a Mandatory Orientation for this program.Â
- The program is delivered at a quick pace, without breaks between classes. The program is technically intense at times. A firm grasp of computer knowledge is required.
- Basic computer skills, including file management in a Windows operating system, are necessary for successful completion of coursework.
- Keyboarding skills are necessary for successful completion of coursework.
- The program is delivered in a hybrid format. Meaning some of your instruction, class time, and coursework will be completed at home and some will be done in the classroom.
- Students are expected to be in a learning environment doing coursework for the duration of class time. Students are not allowed to work during scheduled class hours.
- Your instructor will inform you of your on-site class hours and provide you with your virtual Google Meet link a week before class starts.
