Veterans Services - Emily Griffith Technical College

Veterans Services

If you are a veteran, active duty service member, member of the selected reserve or VRAP recipient or an eligible dependent, we can help you use your military benefits to train for your career.

How to get started

Step 1: Complete the Application for Benefits

In order to be eligible for VA benefits, you’ll need to complete the application for benefits with the VA. You will receive your Certification of Eligibility in the mail.

Step 2: Apply!

  • Submit your free online Admissions Application.
    • Information you may need for your application:
      • Social security number
      • Colorado Driver’s License or Colorado ID Card information
      • If you are under 23, you may need some information from a parent or guardian
  • Want help? Contact Admissions at 720-423-4700.
  • If you recently moved to Colorado, you can receive in-state residential status by submitting your Certification of Eligibility and our in-state residential waiver to an academic adviser.

Step 3: Complete Emily Griffith’s Online New Student Orientation

  • Watch the videos and the Clery Act presentation here.

Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid and/or Scholarships

We want to help you graduate debt-free, if at all possible. Here’s how to start that process:

  • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is your gateway to state and federal grants, scholarships and work-study funds. Our school code is 005596. (The FAFSA only applies to Emily’s financial aid-eligible programs.)
  • Apply for scholarships. (You will never know whether you qualify for a scholarship unless you apply. Our advice? Do it!)
  • Need assistance? Schedule an appointment with an Equal Opportunity Counselor for help with your FAFSA at 720-423-4744.

Step 5: Meet Program Requirements

Are you ready for Emily Griffith? If you are starting a Career and Technical Education program, you will need to meet certain requirements for your program.

Chances are, if you have a high school diploma and a 2.5 unweighted GPA or GED scores of 145, you will not need to take an additional test. Here’s how to find out:

  • Visit the Emily Griffith Assessment page and confirm your program’s requirements. If you have the educational or testing background you need for your program, please submit your unofficial transcripts, test scores or diploma via the application. If not:
  • Sign up for the EdReady Learning Paths at Emily Griffith. This program will help you practice the skills necessary for your program and prepare for classwork at Emily Griffith. Once you meet your program’s target score, you are ready to go.
  •  If you would rather, you can take the TABE entrance test. Learn more about the TABE here.

Step 6: Meet With an Adviser

Your adviser will help you register for classes, give you your program checklist and provide inside information on resources to help you succeed.

  • Schedule an appointment by emailing your adviser. Check-in for advising with a photo ID at the 6th floor Welcome Desk at 1860 Lincoln St., Denver, Colo.
  • Bring your Certification of Eligibility, any transcripts from prior college classes, and schedule to the VA adviser.
    • You may submit your Joint Services Transcript for transfer credit and/or prior learning credit evaluation
    • Military transcripts can be obtained at JST@doded.mil.
    • Please note: The VA/GI Bill will not pay for any courses that do not directly apply toward your chosen program.
  • If needed, contact Disability Support Services to schedule an appointment.

Step 7: Review and Complete Your Program Checklist

  • Make sure you have your program checklist. Program checklists are available from your adviser and on the web page for your program.

Step 8: Buy Books and Supplies

  • You can see your book list on your schedule. You can buy your books online at EmilyGriffith.Textbookx.com. You must have your books for the first day of class. Books ordered online can take up to 10 business days to arrive.

Step 9: Go To Your First Class!

Moodle is Emily Griffith’s online learning platform. It will be your go-to for everything from course materials and online classes to announcements and your Student Handbook.

  • Access course materials in Moodle at moodle.emilygriffith.edu. Your username is your student ID number and your password is our student portal password (both are included on your student schedule). Classes are inactive in Moodle until the class start date.
  • Enjoy your experience at Emily Griffith!
