FAQS

Steps 2-6 must be completed in person during open registration periods. You can come into our office on the 6th floor at 1860 Lincoln St., Room 663 for help with any step in the registration process.

If you can only take one class and you have not taken any GED subject area tests, we recommend starting with the Reading class. Strong reading comprehension is required for all the subject area tests, and our reading content prepares students for the language arts, social sciences, and science tests.

Aztec is the online learning program we use for our high school equivalency classes. You will complete lessons and assessments in your Aztec account.

The locator tells us what you need to study first.  In addition to determining whether you need Level 1 or Level 2, you will receive access to the curriculum you need based on your locator results.

Double-check your username and password in the email you received. They are case-sensitive. If you are sure you entered your credentials correctly and still can’t get into the system, contact gedprep@emilygriffith.edu or call 720-423-4700.

Look for an email from gedprep@emilygriffith.edu confirming your registration and providing payment information. Payment is due by your first class.

Emily Griffith Technical College offers scholarships that cover 20 – 30% of the cost of your classes. Scholarships are awarded on a first come first serve basis, so register for classes early!

You can also set up a payment plan with Treasury. A payment plan will split the cost of your courses into two equal payments. The first payment must be made before your first day of class, and the second payment will be due the following month. You can request a payment plan online or contact the Treasury to set up a payment plan. View payment information.

You may qualify for WIOA funding to pay for classes. Please talk to one of our staff members for more information.

We accept third-party funding from employers, agencies, or other individuals who have agreed to pay for your classes. Please contact Treasury if you are expecting third-party funding.

Almost all of the classwork for the GED classes are online. You will continue to use Aztec for your lessons and tests throughout the class. It is important that you have a working computer and reliable internet access.

There are no textbooks required for the GED classes. In online classes, 100% of the materials are online. In our in-person classes, you may be given worksheets and readings from the instructor, but the majority of the coursework will still be online.

You can change your class schedule up until the census date, which is usually within the first week of class. However, we recommend you let us know before classes start.

We recommend that students be in level 4 (advanced) English classes at Emily Griffith Technical College or higher to enroll in GED classes. If you are unsure of your English level, please email gedprep@emilygriffith.edu to request an English assessment. You can also come to our office on the 6th floor at 1860 Lincoln St. to take the English assessment.

Everyone’s timeline is different. Each GED class term is 8 weeks long, and we offer 2 levels of both Math & Reading classes. For some students, taking each level once is enough to get them the scores they need on their practice exams. For others, repeating a class is helpful and gives them more time to work on specific topics or skills.

Your GED Instructor will use Aztec diagnostic tests and GED Ready practice exams to evaluate your readiness for the official GED Exam. If your teacher agrees that you are ready, Emily Griffith Technical College will give you a voucher code that you will use to register for the exam for free.

Work with your instructor to determine when you’re ready to take your GED subject area tests. All information about the test, testing centers, and practice tests is available at ged.com.

When you are ready to take the GED exam, choose if you want to take the exam online or in person at an official testing center. Your instructor will help you register and schedule your exam at https://ged.com/about_test/scheduling/
