GED Classes

PencilsEmily Griffith Technical College GED preparation and Adult Basic Education classes are appropriate for individuals who are preparing for the GED test or who need to enhance their reading, math and writing skills. These classes are also appropriate for Colorado Firefighter, Police Officer, and Deputy Sheriff job applicants to brush-up on academic skills.

Classes are:

  • offered continuously throughout the year (except August)
  • instructor supported
  • offered with a variety of instructional methods
  • $174 for 45 class-hour increments, approximately 8 weeks

Orientation

All incoming or prospective students are required to attend an orientation prior to the start of class. Also, all students with questions about the GED and/or ABE courses and college programs are invited to attend. Information about courses, one-on-one meetings with teachers and administration, resource guides, and registration information will be available.

Students should bring TABE results and registration information if possible. Students unable to attend must make email contact prior to the start of class with Josephine Rodriquez at josephine.rodriguez@emilygriffith.edu.

GED/Adult Basic Skills Preparation Attendance Policy

Students registered in GED/Adult Basic Skills Preparation are held to a three absence maximum attendance policy per 45-hour block of instruction. Any student who misses the equivalent of three class sessions within a 45-hour block of instruction will be dropped from the course for non-participation without refund. Partial and full absences will be used to calculate the equivalent of three class sessions.

  3. Take a reading and math pre-test:
    • at the Testing Center at Emily Griffith Technical College
    • at off-site classes during class times
    • a valid government-issued picture ID is required
    • testing will take approximately 2 1/2 hours
  4. Register for the classes:
    • in the Registration Center at Emily Griffith Technical College
    • at off-site classes during class times
  5. Pay for classes:
    • in the Treasurer's Office at Emily Griffith Technical College
    • at off-site locations during the class times
